Mexican Food Withdrawl

So after a few weeks of not eating or seeing Mexican food (even poor tex-mex attempts), I am starting to miss it. To begin my quest I, naturally, googled "mexican food market". Some places came up but nothing substantial. A million rephrased keywords and dead-end links later, I was left with a list of 2 potential markets and 3 restaurants.

I made it my goal to visit one of the markets Monday night since it was in the 6th district and we had to go see a play there later that evening. Jihane and I ventured, savoring tacos, burritos, quesadillas...really anything resembling a Mexican dish. In the blog that the place was mentioned, they had written that - though it was a Colombian specialty shop - they still had basic Mexican items.

The "market" that was described was merely two shelves with canned plantanes and other Colombian spices. They had a packet of corn tortillas for 10 euros, a small can of jalapenos for 5 euros and a small jar (about the size of my fist) of salsa verde for 8 euros! I could buy my weekly groceries for just those three items that I could easily consume in two meals!

Jihane and I left very dissapointed and I sadly crossed off one of the two "markets" I hoped would rescue me from my cravings.

  1. Triste!

    Try this link: http://www.fra.cityvox.fr/restaurants_paris/LieuxTrouves?TLI=&GLI=MEX&CAR=&QUA=&PRI=&resa=&promo=0&tri=nomA

I went to a "Mexican" resto about a 10 minute walk east from République, toward Oberkampf (can't remember the name), but it was meh.

Just glancing at the link, I know the Indiana place is a chain restaurant by the train station and isn't really Mexican. There's an American market called "Thanksgiving" in the Marais that might have some Mexican stuff or could order it for you.

  2. Not only was I incredibly disappointed that we didn't get some awesome Mexican food, but I had to settle for a mayo sandwich, that had a dash of chicken and tomatoes...
